No matter where you shop or what you’re shopping for, there are specific tasks you should complete before you head to checkout. This goes for either online or offline purchases. Since Empowered Shopper is more about online purchasing, we are going to show you a few things that you NEED to do before you click the checkout button. We want to make sure you save as much money as possible and you get the best deal you can. Why waste money when you don’t really need to? Seriously, why?
Since the weekend is a popular time to go shopping (since we have two days off), then let’s focus what you can do right now to save you money. Wouldn’t you want to keep a few more dollars in your pocket this weekend? I know I would. Today, I’m going to show you three things you have to do before you go through the online checkout process. This goes for any site, even Amazon.com!
This post was written in collaboration with Groupon. I was compensated for my time, but my opinions/thoughts are my own.
Three Things You Should Do Before Checking Out
These items are not talking about checkout security, but you should already know that. I always recommend you buy from stores that you know and you use a credit card online. They have much better security features than debit cards, so do yourself a favor and use you credit card online. Your bank account will thank you if a hacker gets a hold of your information!
This should really be a no-brainer, but I still come across people who don’t shop around for anything. They go to a store, grab what they need, and then walk out. That type of shopping style can really cost you money. Trust me, I used Amazon on my phone to save money on a mattress in the store. I didn’t even have to leave the mattress store. Oh, the power of technology! Shopping around is my number one shopping tip for anyone. Always compare prices and do it often. You should check at least three stores before you make the purchase. You should even ask if they do any price matching. You never know until you ask!
If you’re not shopping around to compare prices, then you’re not shopping right!
Check for Coupons
Ah yes, coupons! They are everywhere right? You can get coupons where you can clip and cut. They can be used in stores and online. Coupons are so easy, it’s not even funny. Why not try to find a coupon before you make the purchase? Yes, there are some stores which don’t have coupons, but those are few and far between. Heck, you can even find Amazon coupons on their site. I never shop for anything without looking for a coupon first. This is especially true when I’m shopping online.
Before I go through the checkout process, I tend to head over to Google and type in something like “store name coupons” and see what comes up. I also have a few trusted sites I head over to just to make sure they don’t have any exclusive coupons. Did you know that Groupon now has a dedicated coupons page for awesome and sometimes exclusive coupon codes? They even have eBay coupons, which I didn’t know existed! That’s freaking awesome!
So, before you buy, check for a coupon code. I’ve saved as much as 75% before with a simple coupon code. Just search and see what you can find. Sometimes you can get really good coupons if you sign up for store newsletters. Yes, that means more emails, but the savings can cover the irritation of more emails.
Get Cash Back
This is my last tip and one that I can’t live without. Cash Back! I love getting cash back on everything. It’s so easy, convenient, and it doesn’t cost me a dime. Are you someone who doesn’t want to get cash back when you shop? Heck, I saved 23% on my contact lenses just with a simple cash back offer and a coupon. It took me all of three clicks to activate the deals. Yes, maybe three to five seconds to get the extra cash back right in my pocket. Oh the sweet joys of savings!
When I need to get cash back, I typically head to my favorite cash back site, Ebates. I have an account there and it’s free! There’s no reason you shouldn’t sign up. I also have tried a few more, but you can check those out on our cash back sites page. They have the best and free cash back sites that you can easily sign up for.
You can get up to 40% cash back at some stores, depending on the time. With just a few extra steps, you can be putting money back in your pocket and using it for another purpose. That’s what I’m talking about! If you do a lot of offline shopping, then think about a cash back credit card. I have one that gets me 6% back at grocery stores, 3% back at the gas station, and 1% on everything else. It’s the American Express Blue Cash Preferred card and I recommend it!
So, there you have it my friends. We just empowered your shopping experience with three little tips that you should do before you make any purchase. You should shop around, find coupons, and get cash back. Keep more of the money you make and use it for something else. Trust me, you will feel good when you got the best deal around!
